It must be frustrating trying to root the Kindle Fire, after Amazon's latest software update ended up breaking previous root methods. Here's a new method, however, that works with the updated 6.2.1 OS version as well as all other software versions.
Android Police has posted the instructions as well as links to the apps you need to root the Fire, developed by Justin Case with assist from developers Vashypooh, Trevor Eckhart, and IOMoster. The process appears pretty straightforward.
As noted in the comments for a previous Kindle Fire rooting utility, however, rooting the Fire might interfere with some of your Amazon services, such as streaming video. But BurritoRoot app has an unroot option that will disable the hack so you can temporarily use Amazon Prime-related features until you're ready to go back to the rooted state.
Note also that future Amazon updates might break this root method too. Until then, happy rooting.
