Texoma Red Cross Volunteers Headed to Help Tornado Victims

The American Red Cross office here in Wichita Falls is sending two disaster relief experts to help families recovering from an F-4 tornado that ripped through Hattiesburg, Mississippi on Sunday.

John and Genie Burge headed out this afternoon for what may be a 3 week stay, taking food and much-needed supplies to the devastated area.

The twister did major damage in the city and on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. At least 10 people were injured but no one died.

Genie Burge, a Red Cross Volunteer said, "This is probably about our 15th disaster that we have been on and we just get such a thrill out of helping other people."

In addition to homes that were damaged, the Mississippi Red Cross chapter was completely flattened and its fleet of emergency response vehicles was greatly damaged.
